Hay Literary Festival – end of May and beginning of June each year, 30 minutes from Rhedyn.
The programme of some five hundred events takes place in the tented festival village during the spring bank half term holiday. Writers, politicians, poets, scientists, comedians, philosophers and musicians come together on the green field site to talk, eat, think, drink and be merry. The festival started in 1988 and is held in the beautiful Black Mountains, part of the Brecon Beacons National Park. We do turn up at the Festival each year, never knowing what day, but we would hate to miss this local shot of culture!
At the same time in Hay is HowTheLightGetsIn, the world’s largest philosophy and music festival. With more than two-hundred of the world's leading philosophers, musicians, writers and scientists join together each year to investigate a specific theme. It will be back again in 2018.
Brecon Jazz Festival – staged in mid August each year, only 30 minutes from Rhedyn.
Many musicians travel from all over the world to perform at this small and friendly musical event. The Festival was first staged in 1984 and has undergone a few alterations over the years. There is a large amount of events to pick and choose from between Friday and Sunday night. Either buy tickets from the Festival programme or purchase a ‘Stroller ticket’ to visit the smaller indoor or outside venues.
Each year we do our best to get to the Festival, it’s great fun, good street food, great atmosphere and fantastic music.
